Frequently Asked Questions.
'What are the Passport & Visa requirements?'
You must be in possession of a full passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the
date of proposed departure, a visa is issued on arrival in South Africa.
'What are the average temperatures during the Sardine Run?'
The Sardine Run takes place during our winter. The resort is situated in a valley and we can
have some very cold off-shore winds in the early morning. During the day the temperatures are generally
good, ranging between 16- 25°C. At night the temperatures drop and it can be cold. The water temperature is around 18- 22°C
'What are the general climate conditions?'
Generally the weather is warm and dry and sea conditions are generally calm. We do from
time to time get the storm fronts from the Cape that can cause big waves and rainy conditions.
'What should I bring?'
The area is very casual and remote and while the daytime is generally warm, the nights can be
cold. A jacket, sweatshirt or sweaters are advisable as well as shorts, t-shirts, trousers,
shirt, costumes and a wind and rain breaker. Shoes or sneakers, sandals, suntan lotion,
sunglasses. You will also require personal items such as aspirin, decongestants, shampoo,
toothpaste etc.
'Electrical Adapters'
We have a range of adapters that take UK & European plugs.
'What medical precautions should I take?'
No compulsory vaccinations are required however you should consult a travel doctor.
'What do the breakfasts consist of?'
There is a selection of continental style or full english breakfast. The breakfasts consist
of a selection of cereals, yoghurt, fruit-salad, fruit, muffins, egg, bacon, sausage, toast, orange
juice & tea or coffee. Please advise when booking if there are any special diet requirements.
'What are the costs of the Dinners?'
During your stay you can enjoy dinner at the resort, there is a fantastic bar area and
restaurant. The cost of a main meal is about R70.00 and a normal three course meal is about R150.00
'Will I get seasick?'
We want you to be comfortable, dives are all done from RIBs. Some people do feel a bit
seasick if they surface earlier than the main group and have to spend a while on the RIB. There
are several medications available if you do suffer from seasickness.
'Are tips required?'
Tipping is optional [10% is recommended]. We will advise about tipping at each area.
'Can I come on a trip without a buddy?'
Many of our customers travel on their own. There will always be a diving buddy for you.
'What currencies are used?'
South African Rands [ZAR] is and easily available at ATMs, Banks etc.

'What is the situation with food & water?'
Drink lots of water [tap water is safe to drink] to avoid dehydration. There is no reason
why you should become ill but often the change in food and environment can cause illness.
A combination of too much sun and alcohol can also cause problems.
Wash any vegetable or fruit before consumption.
'What time zone is South Africa in?'
South Africa:- GMT + 2 hours.
'How much spending money do I need?'
The UK Pound & Euro exchange rate is very favourable against the Rand [ZAR],
making South Africa a really affordable destination. The only spending money you will
require will be for lunch, dinner, drinks, souvenirs & tips etc. Most places accept
major credit cards & there are cash machines available in most places.
